The world of interior design is one of constant change. What was new is now old, and what was once old is new again. It is no different to the world of clothing – trends come and go, changing almost on a whim. So is a sector as traditional as fireplaces subjected to such changes in direction?
Yes!
Fireplaces are no longer “stuck in the mud”. As homes have got more modern, so too have fireplaces. They change to the needs and wants of the customers just as much as any other appliances. So what are expected to be the trends that define 2015?
Simplicity

Be Modern Sensation
Above all else this year, “simple” is king. As we pointed out above, as home interior has become more sleek and uncomplicated, fireplaces have followed suit. That trend looks set to continue in 2015, as simple designs are what the public seem to want. While they still have to be beautiful, they don’t have to be over the top anymore. This may turn out to be the easiest trend to “stick to”, if you are that way inclined, as this type of “simple” design suits a wide range of rooms, even if the rooms themselves change over the course of the next few years.
Cost
A trend running parallel to simplicity is low cost. With the world still in the process of dragging itself out of an economic recession, extravagance seems to be have been cut. While big, ornate pieces are still popular, people are now finding the joy in buying lower price, similarly powerful fireplaces. This goes hand in hand with the above trend, so if you want your home to look amazing, but have a budget to work around, this is your lucky year!
Outdoors
This one is slightly more surprising than the two above. Recently, there has been a big push towards outside heating. With improvements in the sector, more people are feeling the time is right to get a patio or decking area for more than just the one or two nice days of a typical British summer! Be they wood burning stoves, that reflect the natural world they find themselves in, or hole in the wall gas numbers to protect them from the rain, they all point towards the growing desire to sit under the stars while keeping warm.
Unusual Locations

And finally, we have something quite bizarre. There is an increasing amount of people who want to have fireplaces in rooms you might not expect, namely kitchens and bathrooms. While these will usually just be for show, they actually make a fair amount of sense. Both rooms can become neglected in terms of heating equipment since you don’t spend all day in them, so having a small fireplace at the ready will come in handy quickly.
Quite a diverse set of trends, right? Luckily, we here at York Fireplaces cover all of these fireplaces under our excellent ranges, so if you want to stay on point, or even buck these trends and go with your guy, you’ll be well serviced here.
