Strange, quirky pieces of furniture can be found everywhere. From “Big red lips” sofas to those circular, rotating beds, there seems to be infinite room for the unusual.
Except within the world of fireplaces.
As you’ll see from our excellent range here at York Fireplaces, fireplaces tend to either be classy and understated, or bold and eye catching. But “eccentric” fireplaces are seldom seen. The most you’ll get is one of those huge, ornate fireplaces in stately homes, and even then they aren’t exactly “out there”, are they?
To test the waters in this new field, we tracked down 5 unusual fireplace designs, to show you the extremes that some companies have gone to in order to provide the eccentric with ways to heat their home.
Tekto BioAlcohol Fireplace
Starting off, we have this “crevice” style Tekto model. Upon first seeing it, it just looks like a slab of stone – something you would see the Bruce Lee chop in half. But if he were to break this in two, Mr. Lee would be in for a surprise!
Yep, the flame sprouts from the crack, powered by sustainable BioAlcohol. The Tekto is quite small, at only 50cm in width, but it is fully portable, so you can carry around your slab of stone to whichever room you please!
Cocoon Aeris Fireplace
Pining for the 70s? Cocoon Fireplaces are here to help. The Aeris stainless steel “cocoon” hangs from the ceiling, glistening in the sun with it’s mirror finish. The fire inside is actually removeable, so you can use the empty shell for all manner of things, from simple storage to displaying wine bottle.
BioFireplace Tulip
Though certainly eye-catch, the above fireplaces themselves aren’t very big, banking instead on their slick appearances. The Tulip does nothing of the sort. All subtlety is abandoned in the name of boldness. If the above two are finely sharpened knives, the Tulip is a sledgehammer.
Framed as a “sculpture” more so than a traditional fireplace, there is no denying that you wouldn’t fail to notice it when you walked into the room, but it doesn’t resemble any tulip we’ve ever seen.
La Nordica Carillon Fireball
We’ll come right out and say it – this looks like an accident. Somehow, a stove got embedded in a giant penny, and the two can’t be separated. But no, this is infact the way its supposed to look!
The Carillon Fireball’s main selling point is it’s manuverability, which comes from it’s ability to rotate 90° left or right, channeling the heat it produces wherever the owner wishes. Why it comes surrounded in bronze is anybodies guess.
Heat & Glo Cyclone Fireplace
We’ll finish with what is arguably the most unique, attention grabbing fireplace we found. “Cyclone by name, cyclone by nature” best sums this up. Due to some clever turbine engineering, this simple gas flame is morphed into a spinning inferno! Words can’t do it justice, so we implore you to see it in action in the video below.
